AML and verification policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
GlobalSwap compares offers from partner exchanges and creates your swap with the partner you choose. The partner, or an exchange it passes your swap to, receives your coins and carries out the swap.
Identity and anti-money-laundering (AML) checks are run by that partner or exchange, not by GlobalSwap. This page explains who runs them, what can happen to your swap, what we do and don't do, and what isn't allowed.
Contents
1. Who runs the checks
Each partner runs its own identity and anti-money-laundering checks, under its own policy and the law that applies to it. When a partner passes your swap to another exchange, both may check it.
A check can happen with any partner and at any time: when you create the swap, while it runs, or before a refund. We can't tell in advance whether a partner will ask you for identity documents.
Some partners' terms require identity verification from everyone who lives in certain countries, including countries of the European Union. We link each partner's terms and anti-money-laundering policy in its offer details and on the Partners page, where the partner publishes them.
2. What a partner may do
Under its policy and terms, a partner may:
- check your wallet addresses and the coins you send, for example against sanctions lists;
- pause your swap and hold the coins until its check is finished, which can take a long time;
- ask for an identity document, for proof of where the funds came from, or whether you own the wallets you use;
- refuse the swap and return the coins under its refund terms, sometimes only after you have verified your identity;
- keep the coins where its terms allow it, for example for people in countries it doesn't serve, or where an authority orders it;
- share information about your swap with authorities, or report it to them, as the law that applies to the partner requires.
3. What GlobalSwap does and doesn't do
We don't verify identities or ask for identity documents, and we don't check wallet addresses against sanctions lists. We don't decide on a partner's checks. We can't release a paused swap, move your coins or change the partner's decision.
Before you create a swap, each offer says that the partner may ask for ID. If the partner passes swaps to other exchanges, the offer also shows its rating of the exchange's ID checks, when it gives one.
If the partner reports that it paused your swap, your swap's page says so and links to the partner. Our support explains what the partner asks for and how to reach it.
We never help anyone avoid or get around a partner's check.
4. Countries and sanctions
Each partner decides which countries it serves, and its terms usually list those it doesn't. These often include countries under sanctions. Some partners also don't serve people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or the United States.
Our hosting provider tells us the country of your IP address. We use it to leave out such partners: Trocador for the European Economic Area and the United States, and ChangeNOW for the United Kingdom. SideShift.ai checks your country itself. If one of them doesn't serve you, its offer shows “Not available in your country”. For other countries and partners, check the partner's terms before you create a swap.
Don't create a swap with a partner whose terms exclude you. A partner that finds out may refuse the swap or keep the coins under its terms.
5. What isn't allowed
Don't use GlobalSwap:
- with coins that come from crime, or to hide where coins came from or who owns them;
- to finance terrorism, or to pay for illegal goods or services;
- if you are under sanctions or act for someone who is, or to get around sanctions;
- for another person, or with coins you don't own or aren't allowed to use;
- with false information, for example about where you live or who owns the coins;
- for anything else that is against the law where you live or act.
6. If we learn of misuse
If we learn that a swap may break these rules, we may tell the partner that handles it and refuse further help with that swap.
We may also pass information to the police or another authority when the law requires it, or when we believe this is needed to prevent fraud or other crime.
To protect the service from abuse, we limit how many swaps and support requests one visitor can create in a short time.
8. Questions
If a partner has paused your swap, use the button on your swap's page to reach the partner, or send us a support request at globalswap.io/support with your swap ID.
